The Importance of Waste Management on Construction Site
We attended the Hobson and Porter Foundations Live Exhibition 2017. We had a stand there that involved introducing the students to our business and the facilities. We also spoke to the people that attended and helped them to understand our business and our customer’s needs. It was here that we met Phillip Hodgkinson of Selby College who suggested that a presentation going in to more detail about our company and services would be useful for his construction students and our soon to be customers!
After this conversation, Nicola, our Sales & Marketing Manager and Kim, one of our Sales Coordinators, visited Selby College to deliver a presentation on the Importance of Waste Management on Construction Sites on the 5th March 2018. Firstly, the presentation gave the students an insight in to who we are as a company and a little bit about our history. We gave
information on where it all began in 2002 when we were trading from Hessle Dock. Then the presentation went on to say that in 2008 we moved to our present home on Gibson Lane at Melton and discussed our bigger offices and purpose-built waste transfer station. The students found it amazing that the station can hold up to 750,000 tonnes of waste, with only approximately 5% being land-filled! Types of customers were also talked about and Nicola pointed out that we have a large range from Local Authorities, Government Organisations, local businesses in various trades and industries; as well as the public.
Nicola and Kim explained about the skip hire and the waste types involved. The purpose of this was to give them an idea on how to manage their waste smarter and in a more cost efficient way.
The presentation was received well by two groups of students. Since this presentation, we have been asked to go back to Selby College to present to more students in the future.
